RSV!! It's Nasty

It was a week ago yesterday that we found out our little guy had RSV. I really didn;t know much about it but I do now. We took him to the doctor on thursday night around ten thirty he got some breathing treatments and tested for rsv which came back positive. I knew rsv could be bad and it is. He got sent up to the hospital and we got there around two. This was for sure the worst night of my life. Taking your baby to the hospital is awful and wondering if he is going to be okay is even worse. He was a super sick little boy. He was immediately put on oxygen to get is levels back up which were super low. He got x-rays to check for pneumonia and blood drawn which was hard cause the couldn't find a vein its so hard to watch you little guy crying not really being able to help him. The nest day he got put on an iv which he did really good not even a peep. The nurses were impressed but thought he must be pretty sick to not even cry. Until it came out the next day and no one knew for a bit and so the fluids were still being pumped not into his vein though but into his little hand which caused it to blow up. It was so tight and sore I felt bad for him. He was such a happy guy all 5 1'2 days we were there. All the nurses wanted to take him home and couldn't believe how happy he was for how sick he was. He slowly improved and his lungs started to clear up it just took a while and a lot of close monitoring. Once he was off oxygen for about 24 hours we were able to come home. We came home on tuesday afternoon and he is doing pretty good he has really horrible ear infections, which is really common with rsv. So hopefully in a couple of weeks he will be back to his self. I hope no one ever has to go through this I am so grateful for such an awesome family who helped up through this. By bringing us meals ( hospital food gets old fast), watching the other two boys while we were up there, and reassuring us he would be ok. I'm glad we are home and things are improving but if we have anymore sickness this year I'm going to scream. We are definitely ready for warm weather.

That is so awful for all of you to have to go through. Reading it brought back memories of my little 2 month old McKall being in the hospital almost exactly a year ago, with a bladder infection. It was so hard watching them try to get the IV in her, so I know what you went through. Glad you guys are all home and better!

Hey Chelsi!!! I am so that that I ran into you at Temple Square!!! I can't believe that it was 5 years ago that we were in Beauty School together. It seems like just yesterday! I love your blog and your boys are ADORABLE!!!! It makes me that much more excited to have another boy! You'll have to let us know when you are in Utah and we can get together! That was always my biggest fear in the winter, getting RSV. That makes me so sad, I hope you are all healthy and happy by now:)
